Packing Strips

Wound packing strips are continuous, one-piece strips of material used to fill empty space in a deep cavity or tunneling wounds. They can be impregnated with antibacterial components or used in conjunction with other wound fillers to facilitate the removal of exudate and debris, encourage granulated tissue growth, prevent or treat infection and avoid premature wound closure.

Plain Packing Strips
Sterile packing strips without impregnation are plain and are generally made from fine-mesh cotton gauze. Latex and rubber-free options from Curity, CURAD and Pak-It are compatible with wet-to-dry wound packing and are available in various pre-cut sizes.

Iodoform Packing Strips
Iodoform is an antimicrobial compound that has been used to pack wounds since the beginning of the 20th century. Many wound care practitioners choose iodoform gauze because of its effectiveness against common infectives, like pseudomonas and E. coli. Pak-It Iodoform Packing Strips feature a specially designed delivery system that ensures the iodoform gauze is clean and tangle-free, with the end of the strip always easy to locate.

More Medical Packing Strip Options
In addition to iodoform and plain packing strips, you can find wound packing gauze infused with other antiseptic compounds. Curity AMD Packing Strips feature 0.2% polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB). Algidex Ag Packing Gauze combines silver, alginate and maltodextrin to combat a broad range of antibiotic-resistant microbes while managing exudate and maintaining a moist environment.
