KerraLite Cool™ is a dressing using a transparent hydrogel that creates an ideal healing environment for dry or low-exudate wounds and helps debride tissue by donating or absoring fluid as required to encourage wound bed preparation and granulation. As its key ingredient, hydrogel helps maintain the right amount of moisture, absorbing water while providing a degree of permeability. KerraLite Cool™ offers a cool, soothing sensation created through a combination of fluid-repellent, flexible and breathable polyurethane film and pro-ionic gel contact layer.
How It Works
This biomimetic copolymer system contains 3 layers:
- Film Layer – fluid-repellent, flexible, and highly breathable
- Contact Layer – pro-ionic hydrogel designed to enhance interactions with fluids and increase wear time
- Adhesive Border – secures the dressing in place, especially for hard to dress areas
Various studies have shown hydrogel dressings have the ability to inhibit proteolysis, resulting in the reduction in MMPs (in vitro) and wound pain. A subsequent evaluation was conducted using 11 participants at The Wound Healing Research Unit, Cardiff University, UK. Despite undergoing up to 2 years of wound management with other dressings, all patients showed a significant improvement in terms of reduction of slough and increase in granulation tissue within just 14 days of using KerraLite Cool™ Dressings.
