3M Health Care is now Solventum. The same products you know and trust, now under a new brand.
Medipore™ tape from Solventum (Formerly 3M)™ helps keep dressings and ostomy pouches secure while minimizing tape-related injury, even with fragile and delicate skin. Medipore H is a soft cloth surgical tape that breathes and stretches with patient movement. This tape accommodates swelling in a variety of wounds.
Solventum (Formerly 3M) Medipore H Soft Cloth Medical Tape is a conformable, breathable soft cloth surgical tape with lateral perforations every 5 centimeters for easy hand-tearing and a strong adhesion for more challenging applications. Improving on the original, Solventum (Formerly 3M) medical tapes are more gentle, hypoallergenic, latex-free and water-resistant. Available in single-use rolls.
Surgical tapes are pressure sensitive, meaning they are designed to adhere best when gentle, but firm, finger or hand pressure is applied to the tape, rubbing it into place. This action allows the adhesive to come into contact with more skin surface, increasing the initial adhesion and decreasing the risk of rolling or losing the tape to friction. Typically, the tackier or stickier the tape is, the less pressure is needed to adhere to the skin.
It is recommended to place the tape without tension onto the skin. Do not encircle a limb completely with tape in order to not compromise circulation.
All of the Solventum (Formerly 3M) surgical tapes are natural rubber and latex free.
The most gentle tapes for repeated taping are Solventum (Formerly 3M) Medipore H, Micropore, Micropore Plus, and Transpore white tapes.
The key concepts to maximize adhesion are:
Proper tape removal is critical in reducing the occurrence of traumatic skin injuries such as skin stripping. First, loosen the edges of the tape. Remove the tape low and slow in the direction of hair growth. Keep the tape close to the skin surface and pulled back over itself. Removing at an angle will increase tension on the epidermis and increase the risk of mechanical trauma.
For tape that is strongly adhered to the skin or hair, you may consider using a medical grade adhesive remover or moisturizer to soften the adhesive. Solventum (Formerly 3M) tape adhesives are not readily dissolved in alcohol.
Reassess the skin. You will either need to remove the moisturizer or adhesive remover or use a moisturizer that allows you to tape over it.
