For individuals who begin wearing an ostomy system, roughly half believe that they will experience irritation around the skin barrier. To combat discomfort and ensure a stronger hold, CeraPlus ostomy products are formulated with soothing ceramides to promote healthy peristomal skin.
How CeraPlus Ostomy Products Work
Irritated peristomal skin isn’t only a comfort issue. Instead, inflamed, damaged skin or a rash can affect barrier adhesion.
CeraPlus skin barriers use ceramide to keep the skin moist and ensure the barrier won’t detach from the skin.
What Do Ceramides Do?
Composed of lipids, ceramide is a naturally occurring substance in the human skin that works to prevent transepidermal water loss (TEWL). To do this, ceramide’s waxy molecules form a waterproof barrier that locks in the skin’s natural moisture.
TEWL may stem from damaged or worn-away skin, and without naturally occurring ceramides, the skin is vulnerable to dryness and additional damage. Patients living with damaged or dry skin are encouraged to moisturize with a ceramide-infused product for this reason.
As part of the CeraPlus skin barrier, ceramides are essential for maintaining peristomal skin health and reducing TEWL.
How the CeraPlus Skin Barrier Works
The CeraPlus is available as a cut-to-fit or pre-cut ostomy barrier that is designed to be attached without tape. CeraPlus is also offered in Flat and Convex styles. The barrier is available in latex-free rubber to prevent allergic reactions and is compatible with one-piece and two-piece ostomy systems.
The CeraPlus is connected to Premier one-piece ostomy systems and connects to New Image two-piece systems including drainable, high-output, closed and urostomy pouches.
